Outrageous.... this is what happens when women (and children) are viewed as nothing more than chattel/property.
Not that I condone immorality, but when a society, through religion, becomes repressive, incidents of rape etc. will increase. That’s why there is so much sexual abuse in the Catholic priesthood.

I am sorry if I disagree with the Catholic remarks. There are not as much of sexual abuse as the media claims. Not legitimising real victims of isolate cases, there are plenty of opportunists using the church for a easy way to make money. The church’s clergy is guilty of homosexuality but again, between Humans, homosexuality is not a crime...

Where are those extremists of Islam who boast about their religious practices?
Why aren’t they commenting here?
Why aren’t they commenting here?

Sanwali, because it’s about women and most of the comments are by women. And the fundamentalists could care less about women.

That’s really bad, In any Islamic Country there should not be a single case of this kind.
I think this is all due to injustice in Pakistan. Law enforcement agencies are not performing their role.
but I want to disclose some more information here,
In Canada, a woman is sexually assaulted every 6 minutes,
1 in 3 women in Canada will be sexually assaulted at some time in their lives,
1 in 4 women are at the risk of rape or attempted rape in her lifetime,
1 in 8 women will be sexually assaulted while attending college or university, and
A study found 60% of Canadian university-aged males said they would commit sexual assault if they were certain they wouldn’t get caught.
you can go and read this link for more information,
http://www.islamicity.com/mosque/w_islam/veil.htm
so hopefully, now you believe Pakistan is not only UNIQUE country in world which has rape cases.
The rape cases ratio is very low in Pakistan with compare the other large size countries. But i still believe if law enforcement agencies start imposing rules strictly, it can reduce the ratio.
thank you

Why are you comparing the figures Abid?
Are you trying to tell that we should thank god that the rape cases (FILED) here are lesser than Canada?
Please read carefully that these are the figures for Karachi alone. Now you can calculate for rest of the Pakistan yourself.
Comparing Pakistan with other nation’s will not prove anything...we are unsafe till the time men don’t change themselves and keep control on their lust.
Thanks!

@Nadia.
you are 100% correct. i should not compare Pakistan’s statics with any other country specially with non Islamic Country. It will not make conditions in Pakistan better.
but when some one specially blame Pakistan then as a Pakistani i should speak and say that other countries have worse conditions then Pakistan. so don’t only blame Pakistan. Evil is every where, just find and put some solution to avoid evil.
i JUST want no one say that rapes are only in Pakistan and Pakistan or Islam or Pakistan is the reason for this evil.....!
Just find the reason and solution...with out putting blame on Pakistan or ISLAM.

Oh plzzzzz don’t tell me that Pakistan is in competition with Canada or any other country as far as rape cases are concerned.

I guess, the main difference was that in Canada, the criminal would be pursued and made accountable. In Northwest Pakistan, the victim end up stoned for not being a virgin. Sad but true and I am sure many Pakistanis want this changed for a better world.

Not at all, Robbie. Perhaps in NZ you don’t have a problem with the priesthood, but we have had hundreds of lawsuits etc. against priests who molested young men and women.. so it’s not just homosexuality... but it’s def. pedophilia.

And in India rape isn’t even protested against .it has been estimated that India has the highest rape figures, with i out of every two minority women raped in a life time -and that includes Hindus because Dalits are such a large part of the population.

Why are you talking about India. Whatever happens there is their problem. Let them deal with it.
You tell me what treatment do you give to the women of your family? Do you give them equal freedom as yourself?
In India, women are in 100 times better condition than us and you cannot deny this fact.
We became independent nations together but India has left us way behind in many things...women empowerment is one of them.

I’m sure abuse of women is everywhere, not just in Pakistan..
What is in that report is of course horrible, and it is never justified, but it does not mean it is approved in Islam. And it does not mean all women there are abused.
Some here are criticizing what they call ”Islamists” ”Extremists of Islam” although I’m not sure of their definitions of these terms, but why mix culture with Islam? Why mix inhumane acts practiced by some ignorant people with Islam? Educated people and those who know their religion well there would never commit such acts.
And by the way, Pakistan is not an Islamic state, but rather a Muslim state.
An Islam state is the one where shari’a laws are fully implemented, and as far as I know Pakistani laws are not based on Islamic shari’a and I hope I am corrected if I’m wrong here. So I prefer to say Muslim country where the majority are Muslims.

I agree with some of your comments Almaha... don’t be offended. To say that Shari’a law don’t prevail in Pakistan is to say that French don’t eat cheese. It don’t have to be written in constitution. Sharia law rules Pakistan and the local government is powerless against it. If you research further, you will understand that Pakistan North-West Frontier Provinces are only ruled by sharia law.

PS Almaha, I suggest you to read Nadia’s comments above.. she is a lady like yourself and she lives in Pakistan... She knows what is going on.
I am a fan of Islam. I say that because I have Muslim friends and they are amazing. I also have Jews and Christians and they all get well along because they are living far away of this turmoil.
They all agree that the problems related to rape in Pakistan in particular is related to religion. I am not targeting Muslims but instead the wrong use of this religion to justify crimes of sexual nature.
You are disagreeing of me because you are defensive and protective of your religion. It is not a direct attack to Islam at all... Is an attack to women. Living in Riyadh yourself, you cannot be blind and deny cases of mistreatment of women in your own backyard. Women being raped and them sent to death for ’adultery’... Don’t make me push papers about... I had enough of your denial.
If you want to live in the dark, please be my guest... but by convincing yourself of this dark nature of this society, won’t convince others of the same.

hmmm,,ok, sorry for butting in here, but I could not help it...
I think the problem here is that some Muslims maybe giving the wrong impression about Islam. In Islam, women don’t get stoned for being raped. Fact... there is nothing in Islam that justifies sexual assaults, and such criminals DO get punished in Islam...another fact... so, if u ever hear about someone killing a girl for being raped, keep in mind that he WILL probably (literally) burn in hell for doing that :D ... I love the sound of my last sentence... hehehe
Peace...

Wa’d, you are on track. I totally agree this is not natural of Islam. As I previously said many times, I see beauty to it. I believe it is action of people believing to be acting as willingness of Allah.
There are plenty of cases of Women being condemn and executed for being raped. Saudi’s lead the statistics undisputedly (Again, not all Saudi’s are guilty of crimes, I only explaining that cases of this nature happened more than once in Saudi Arabia).

I can’t tell about KSA, I don’t live there, and I’ve never been there... But from my general knowledge about it, I can tell you that NOT everything KSA does, and not every FATWA they issue has a correct origin in Islam...
so I guess we’re left with praying for women living in injustice all over the world... :)

Spirit = religion
Juice = culture
Islam = vodka
Jordan = tomato juice
Pakistan = orange juice
Vodka + tomato juice = Bloody Mary
Vodka + orange juice = screwdriver
Vodka + Vodka = fundamentalism
This formula is applicable to any religion.

Some of the commentators have remarked in a most stupid way ever possible. Instead of opening their eyes and becoming aware of what’s happening in their country they are making rapes India-Pakistan issue..ha..ha.
In fact, statistics are being exchanged as if X number of rapes committed in a certain country makes Pakistanis to commit Y number of rapes in their country. In other words, if rapes are happening in other parts of world, the rapes should occur in Pakistan as well. Very sound justification, isn’t it?
I don’t know if that was the ultimate motive of the writer to come up with this article: To provide certain legitimacy to rapes happening in Pakistan on the basis of similar acts in other country????
Thank God this article was not written by an Indian or else it would have certainly been assumed by Pakistani friends as a well-calculated attempt on the part of India to further malign the already maligned image of Pakistan ha..ha..ha.
Anyway, it’s time to view the article in perspective it demands. It’s a crime associated with women. All steps should be taken to protect the dignity of women from being deflowered at the hands of sexual predators whether they are living in Pakistan, Canada or, for that matter, in any part of the world.

@ Arifa
Now please don’t get me wrong;I am not condoning rape, but if these are the figures Pakistanis need to be real proud about them.I feel sorry for the the more loyal then the king ’Arifa’.
The report says that 62 women were gang-raped and 86 raped;that makes a total of 148 -not 194 as the reporter claims.but OK even if the figure be 194.Lets see...
Maam, these figures are for the whole of Sind which has a female population of 44,394,112 -lets say 44 million;then reduce it by 50% as being under 12 years we have 22 million females.194 comes to less then 0.000001%.Even if we take these figures for Karachi alone total female population 63,00,00 -over 12;31,50,00 this would be less then .006 %.
Considering Karachi is one of the biggest metrapolises of the world -and therefore the most vurnable Pakistani piece of land to western viruses;by these figures even Karachites are saints compared to the rest of the world.
Even then these figures make headlines in our country because we are worried by them.In Bombay more then this number are raped every month-and in the bigger western cities every day -and no one misses a heart beat.
Maam at least give some credit to Islam-and as another lady rightly pointed out at the moment we are only a Muslim country and not yet Islamic.
I have posted an article on women’s right in Islam, please do read it to get educated.

So I am proud of the figures being so low.As you know very well one out of every three women in the USA is raped.now .00001% vs 33 % is something to be proud of -unless you think rape is a good thing.
And if this is your sence of fair play;maam i suggest you don’t read my blog-you will only be at a loss for words-or logic-,and twist the words to suit your purpose.

Hassan,
Point being men should learn to control their lust. Whatever their religion happens to be. And forcing women in your religion to wear Burqas, Hijabs etc. because men have no control and could be tempted is truly ridiculous. And yes, I know fundamentalist women are happy to wear them. I happen to be someone who is vey critical of western women who wear obscene clothing, but Burqas are abusive.

Incognito Maam,
The point is taken_ but how can they if women woun’t help.By nature it is the men who are brute;and women the nobler-as well as the gentler - sex.
The world goes topsy turvey when women start competing with men in lustful persuits.
And who told you any one forces the women to wear hijab or even burkha.Except in a few places where their is cultural pressure for this. That in a way works exactly like cultural pressure in the west for women to bare themselves no one force you do they ...and yet? and then would you blame christianity for all the nudism??

Hassan,
Are you then saying men are no better than animals, because they are brutes? I don’t believe that, at least for enlightened, educated men.
From what I have read, and I have read much regarding Hijab, Niqab etc. it is as much a religious as cultural edict. There are no edicts, per se, in Christianity that tell women that they should bare themselves... or not bare themselves. And if there are any biblical references they were left behind. Christianity has evolved.

Maam,
Hijab is a religious edict,Niqab or burka is a cultural one.And there is a world of a difference between the two.hijan involves a head covering ,and the wearing of clothes to conceal the body curves- any thing in excess o f this is Nikab and burka.
And if you think even educated men left to their own are not brutes, maam you are more naive then I thought:)

But i still believe if law enforcement agencies start imposing rules strictly, it can reduce the ratio.
thank you

And in India rape isn’t even protested against .it has been estimated that India has the highest rape figures, with i out of every two minority women raped in a life time -and that includes Hindus because Dalits are such a large part of the population.

Thanks!

@Nadia.
you are 100% correct. i should not compare Pakistan’s statics with any other country specially with non Islamic Country.

Maam,
Hijab is a religious edict,Niqab or burka is a cultural one.And there is a world of a difference between the two.hijan involves a head covering ,and the wearing of clothes to conceal the body curves- any thing in excess o f this is Nikab and burka.
And if you think even educated men left to their own are not brutes, maam you are more naive then I thought:)

Rape! In Pakistan, Don’t tell me! Why? Didn’t their veils protect them? Oh! Now I got it, they must not be wearing the protective shield, right??? Didn’t the REAL and TRUE islamists come and rescue them?
For God’s sake! Please stop following these double standards. Why don’t you accept that you(extremists) do not respect women at all. They just have to be a care taker of the house, family, children and your sex life. That’s it. I wish I could shoot you all.

Outrageous.... this is what happens when women (and children) are viewed as nothing more than chattel/property.
Not that I condone immorality, but when a society, through religion, becomes repressive, incidents of rape etc. will increase. That’s why there is so much sexual abuse in the Catholic priesthood.

Sorry Arefa but this comment was unnecessary.. Women are abused all over the world including in India. No veil will protect a person against the ignorant subversion of a fundamentalist imbecile... If the there’s no monitoring and police doing their jobs, that’s what would happen to any society. On this case, Pakistanis (not all) hide behind religious hypocrisy and tribalistic costumes to behave like animals... as per fact, what they are...
I tend to remind people of separating cultural backgrounds of people from their religious beliefs but on this case, is a broken understanding of the holy words from Muhammad, that make ignorant Pakistanis (and others) to behave like that. This is a religious consequence, not cultural.
The fact that some of these ladies reported to Pakistani police, only to be abused by them also, make this cases an international concern. They are taken from their homes by Muslim mobs while sleeping. In some cases, any family member present are killed or obligated to watch it. They also receive death threats and in most of these cases it happens.
Pakistan is the best example of a country lost in contradiction and hope. There are so many civilised and well educated people but they are just a few to many ignorant fundamentalist pigs. Any men putting basic humanity morals below religion is an idiot. More I learn of Pakistanis and Afghans, less I like their Allah and more I realise that their God cannot be the same as mine. My God is merciful and condemn violence. it condemn rape. it condemn the abuse of Human rights.
My God is fair because it’s called Humanity.
I feel sorry for Pakistan. It was created with the best intentions but no guidance and will be dull to spent it’s existence as a failed experience. Pakistan will never experience fairness and true freedom as long has the religious concept attached to legislative system.
These people deserves better. They deserve real hope, not sharia misconceptions...

I guess, the main difference was that in Canada, the criminal would be pursued and made accountable. In Northwest Pakistan, the victim end up stoned for not being a virgin. Sad but true and I am sure many Pakistanis want this changed for a better world.

All steps should be taken to protect the dignity of women from being deflowered at the hands of sexual predators whether they are living in Pakistan, Canada or, for that matter, in any part of the world.

hmmm,,ok, sorry for butting in here, but I could not help it...
I love the sound of my last sentence... hehehe

There are plenty of cases of Women being condemn and executed for being raped. Saudi’s lead the statistics undisputedly (Again, not all Saudi’s are guilty of crimes, I only explaining that cases of this nature happened more than once in Saudi Arabia).

@Robbie NZ
In Robbie’s world bombarding appears to be done with words ..ha..ha.
Anyway ,a piece advice to U:Please read well before commenting. You didn’t bother to read what some commentators said on this post.
An application of mind is going to save commentators from being trapped in embarrassing situation.I don’t know why some commentators don’t have the patience to read the article/comments in proper light before presenting their views.I am saying so because it’s really a very hard thing to tackle these long comments devoid of substance.
What’s the point in demonstrating your ignorance to the whole world ? Ha..ha

Hassan,
Point being men should learn to control their lust.

Hassan,
Are you then saying men are no better than animals, because they are brutes? I don’t believe that, at least for enlightened, educated men.
From what I have read, and I have read much regarding Hijab, Niqab etc. it is as much a religious as cultural edict. There are no edicts, per se, in Christianity that tell women that they should bare themselves... or not bare themselves. And if there are any biblical references they were left behind. Christianity has evolved.

For God’s sake! Please stop following these double standards. Why don’t you accept that you(extremists) do not respect women at all. They just have to be a care taker of the house, family, children and your sex life. That’s it. I wish I could shoot you all.
I agree with what you said.
